What to Expect at The Fat Cow Fakenham

If you’re visiting Norfolk this summer and fancy somewhere relaxed, outdoorsy and full of that easy holiday feeling, The Fat Cow in Fakenham is such a lovely stop. It’s a seasonal foodie summer pop‑up, tucked just outside the town on Thorpland Road — and it’s so close to the North Norfolk beaches, making it one of the best foodie pop‑ups to visit after a beach day. Surrounded by fields, wildflowers and those huge Norfolk skies that make every evening feel like a postcard, it’s the perfect place to unwind. It’s ideal for families, dog‑owners, sunset‑chasers, and anyone exploring North Norfolk’s food scene.

A Dog‑Friendly Spot With Proper Norfolk Charm

Dogs are welcome, and there’s plenty of space for them to stretch out and watch the world go by. It’s relaxed, friendly and never fussy — exactly the kind of place you want after a long walk or a day exploring the coast.

Burgers, Veggie Options, Soft‑Serve Ice Cream & Takeaways

The Fat Cow might be a mobile van, but the food is anything but basic. They do brilliant smash burgers made with local, grass‑fed, dry‑aged beef, alongside loaded fries, vegetarian options, and the kind of soft‑serve ice cream that just tastes like summer. They also serve lovely local beers, and they even brew their own The Tipsy Cow, which pair perfectly with a warm evening and a big Norfolk sky.

Wildflower Meadow, Festoon Lighting & Cosy Summer Evenings

The setting is honestly one of the loveliest parts. The Fat Cow sits beside a wildflower meadow, so you’re surrounded by colour and movement — bees drifting between blooms, grasses swaying, dogs sniffing happily at the edges.

There are picnic tables and chairs, some with shade, and as the evening rolls in, the festoon lighting flickers on and gives everything that soft, warm glow. It feels a little bit like a tiny festival tucked into the countryside.

And truly — this is a real find for anyone who loves good food served in a unique, one‑of‑a‑kind setting. It’s the sort of place you tell people about afterwards.

It Gets Busy — But You Can Bring Your Own Chairs

On sunny evenings it can get busy, especially around golden hour. But the team are wonderfully relaxed, and you’re welcome to bring your own camping chairs. It adds to the charm — people dotted around the meadow, dogs curled up beside them, everyone waiting for the sky to do its thing.

Parking & Road Access

There is a car park on site, making it easy to pull in without stress.

However — a friendly heads‑up — the road leading in is a single‑track lane. It’s perfectly manageable for cars, but if you’re driving a large motorhome, this maybe a challenge best to check with them direct. It’s all part of the countryside charm, but good to know before you set off.

The Sunsets Are Something Else

This is one of those places where the sky feels enormous. When the sun starts to dip, the whole meadow glows — warm oranges, soft pinks, and that hazy Norfolk light that makes everything feel a little magical. It’s perfect for photos, perfect for slow evenings, and perfect if you’re exploring Norfolk with your dog this summer.
