Clifftops to Cromer (1 hour)
With the tide still high and the beach tucked under the cliffs, we began our walk on the Norfolk Coast Path. This first section runs close to the cliff edge, so dogs need to stay on lead — the path is wide, but the drop is steep, and curious noses can get too close for comfort.
After a few minutes, the Coast Path briefly leads you onto a road through the holiday park, it’s well signposted, and you simply follow it for a short stretch before rejoining the path. This section gently drops you down towards East Runton beach, where you get your first glimpse of Cromer Pier in the distance. It’s one of those lovely moments where the walk suddenly feels coastal again — sea breeze, open sand, and the pier sitting proudly ahead.
Once back on the clifftop path, the views open up beautifully. The sea feels endless, the air salty and fresh, and Cromer Pier grows larger with every step. Clemmie trotted along happily, stopping to sniff the breeze and check every interesting tuft of grass.
By 12pm, we were stepping down into Cromer, ready for lunch.
Lunch in Cromer
Cromer is full of great places to eat — cafés, pubs, fish and chips, bakeries, and little independent spots tucked down side streets. You’re never short of choice.
We decided on something a bit different: a Greek takeaway enjoyed right on the beach. Sitting on the sand with warm food, sea air and Clemmie curled up beside us felt like the perfect slow moment in the middle of the walk.

North Sea Coffee — Clemmie’s favourite treat stop
North Sea Coffee is one of our Cromer must‑visits. Warm, friendly, and always smelling incredible. Clemmie knows exactly where she is the moment we arrive — she sits, tail wagging, waiting for her treat.
We grabbed a matcha and a latte, then found a spot on the North Sea Coffee bench on the sea wall. It’s one of those perfect Cromer perches — close enough to hear the waves and of course a great place to watch the world drift by.
Pier wander + ice cream
No Norfolk Tails day in Cromer is complete without a wander along the pier. The sea was calm, the sky huge, and the gulls doing their dramatic swoops and of course lots of children crabbing over the side. We finished with an ice cream (beacuse why not) and then it was time to head back.
Beach walk back to West Runton (1 hour)
This is the magic part of the loop. With the tide out, the beach between Cromer and West Runton becomes one long, golden runway. Rock pools shimmer, the sand firms up, and the cliffs glow in the afternoon light.
Clemmie zoomed. She splashed. She inspected every rock pool like a tiny marine biologist. And we wandered back with the waves gently rolling beside us.
By 3:30pm, we were back in West Runton — salty, happy, and already planning when we’d do it again.
